Odisha CM increases daily wage, workdays of migrant workers in 4 districts

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development that would benefit migrant labourers in the state, the state Government today announced an action plan for 11 migration-prone districts across the state.

The districts are Balangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sonepur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Khordha.

At a special function here, the CM announced a special package for 20 vulnerable blocks in four districts-Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi. Accordingly, employment under MGNREGA would be given to workers in the blocks for a total of 200 days in a year instead of 100 days. Besides, their daily wage has also been increased to Rs 286.30 per day from the existing Rs 188.

This apart, a corpus fund of Rs 500 crore has also been created to ensure timely payment to the workers, said Patnaik.

Besides, all families of the four districts will be organised into Self Help Groups (SHGs) and all SHG members would be covered under social security scheme. The Government has also decided to provide pucca houses to eligible families in the four districts.
