Odisha CM involved in chit fund scam, says Prasad Harichandan

Bhubaneswar, Apr 26:

Odisha Congress President Prasad Harichandan today alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik himself is involved in the multi-crore chit fund scam.

Congress PMG rally

Harichandan said so while addressing a rally that the state unit of Congress took out from Master Canteen square of the city to Lower PMG demanding resignation of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare (FS&CW) Minister Sanjay Das Burma for his alleged complicity with chit fund company AT group.

“Minister, MLAs and officials from top to bottom are part of this chit fund scam. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik himself is involved in this scam. That is why we have taken out this rally. We demand a free and fair investigation. Besides, we demand resignation of Sanjay Das Burma, who has been avoiding it even after being served a notice by the CBI,” said Harichandan.

BJD, however, refuted the charges and dismissed the demand.

“These allegations are baseless. CBI is investigating in its own way. We have said it earlier that we would welcome any enquiry that is impartial. We should let the agency do its job. So far as demands for resignation of Das Burma are concerned, I would urge Congress leaders to look inside their own party. What is their policy on Ramesh Jena? Moreover, their youth wing president Rajat Choudhary is being grilled by the CBI. What morality did inspire them to hold this rally? Is it not politically motivated,” questioned BJD Spokesperson Pratap Deb.

It may be mentioned here that some of the Congress supporters today clashed with the cops while on their way to gherao the Assembly during the rally. The incident occurred after the agitators attempted to break the security barricade near Lower PMG. No causalities, however, have been reported.

Many Congress workers were arrested to avoid any untoward incident and were later released.

A public meeting was later held near Lower PMG that was attended by Congress top brass including PCC President Prasad Harichandan, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, senior leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra (Lulu) among others.
