Odisha CM launches ‘Shramika Sarathi’ on Labour Day

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Shramika Sarathi’ programme on the occasion of Labour Day today, under which support and resource centre for migrant workers would be set up at Kantabanjhi, Balugaon and Padampur.

Safety related issues of the migrant workers will be addressed through these centres. An announcement in this regard was made by the CM at the state-level Labour Day celebration at Jayadev Bhawan here.

Patnaik also launched a 45-day campaign with an aim of curbing child labour in the state. This apart, he inaugurated a community radio programme namely ‘Suna Shramika’ for promotion and awareness generation on various welfare programmes for workers and a website nirmanshramika.com.

In his address, the Chief Minister said that the State Government is continuing its efforts to decrease the cases of migrant workers. In order to provide education to the children of labourers, more than 200 seasonal hostels have been opened where over 9000 students are studying, he said.

On the occasion, Biju Shramika Bandhu Award-2018 was presented to four persons– Bidyadhar Barik, Ramesh Chandra Jena, Srinivas Rao and Jatindra Nath Ray– for their distinguishing contribution in the field of welfare of workers.
