Odisha CM Naveen reviews poll promises, stresses on KALIA scheme

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the implementation of 2014 poll promises at the Council of Ministers meeting, probably the last one in the fourth term of his government, before the forthcoming general elections.

During the review, Naveen emphasised on his newly-launched Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme, which earned accolades from various quarters. During the last 60 days, financial assistance to the tune of Rs 1600 crore has been disbursed to more than 32 lakh small and marginal farmers and landless agricultural labourers through direct benefit transfer.

Today, the chief minister transferred the financial assistance to another 4.8 lakh beneficiaries to their bank accounts. The second instalment of Rs 5000 each will be released on April 1 on Utkal Divas.

Biju Janata Dal, which was named after  Biju Patnaik, had formed its first government on March 5, 2000, which had coincided with the legendary leader’s birth anniversary. Today, the tall man’s 103rd birth anniversary was observed and on this occasion the performance of the BJD government, which is in its consecutive fourth term in office, was reviewed by the chief minister.

Naveen said he had convened the Council of Ministers meeting on the day his government came to power for the 4th term in 2014 and reviewed the implementation of the poll promises. Since then, it has become an annual affair.

Stating that his government has fulfilled almost all of the electoral promises, Naveen thanked all involved in the implementation process. “With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, I will keep on working to build New Odisha”, he said.

“We have been working uninterruptedly for the welfare and wellbeing of the people of the state”, said state’s Finance and Agriculture minister Shashi Bhusan Behera.
