Odisha CM urges PM to ensure Indian students of Ukrainian medical varsities complete study in India

Bhubaneswar: Raising concerns over the disruption of studies of Indian medical students in Ukrainian universities due to the ongoing war, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to ensure continuance of their studies in Indian medical colleges.

In a letter, Patnaik requested Prime Minister Modi to make an intervention on an urgent basis with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the ministries concerned to enable and facilitate continuance of studies of the Indian medical students, who have been pursuing education in Ukrainian universities, in the Indian medical colleges.

The Odisha Chief Minister also urged the Prime Minister to ensure that these students can pursue the medical education in India from the stage from which their studies in Ukraine have been disrupted due to the war.

“I assure you of full support of the Government of Odisha for implementing a workable solution for this purpose,” Patnaik wrote in the letter.

The Chief Minister also cited his concern while mentioning in the letter that the disruption in studies of these students is likely to continue until cessation of the hostilities and restoration of normalcy in their universities in Ukraine.

“This is an unprecedented crisis that has the potential of disrupting the careers of several thousands of young men and women who have already gone through the trauma of being in the war zone,” the letter read.

It is worth to mention a large number of medical students from Odisha and other parts of India had to return back home in view of the situation in Ukraine.
