The Congress workers were protesting against the ‘undemocratic’ manner in which 25 MPs of their party were suspended from the Lok Sabha by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan for not allowing the House to run.

Hundreds of Congress workers, amomg them youth and women workers, led by PCC president Prasad Harichandan marched from the Congress Bhawan here shouting slogans against the undemocratic decision of Lok Sabha speaker and Narendra Modi government’s attempt to stifle the voice of Opposition in an effort to conceal the misdeeds of corrupt ministers.

About 500 Congress workers held placards denouncing the BJP government for shielding the culprits in the Vyapam and Lalit Modi scams.

They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits in these scams. Harichandan told the media that the Congress will intensify its agitation against the BJP’s undemocratic action.

Later, Congress workers burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan shouting slogans and left the place.

The police appeared to treat  the demonstrators with kid gloves, persumably because the protest was not directed against the ruling BJD here. No one has been arrested for the protest.
