Odisha unit of Congress and BJP today intensified their stir demanding removal of retired Justice MM Das from chit fund scam probe panel.

While Congress held demonstrations at district headquarters across the state, BJP also held a rally in Cuttack seeking his ouster.

“Justice Das should not have attended a function organised by a political party in the first place. Secondly, the statement he made there goes against the nature of the task assigned to him. This is a clear case of conflict. We demand that his appointment be cancelled through a notification. We have also submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking his removal,” said President of Sundargarh Congress Committee.

BJP took out a rally from Buxi Bazaar party office in Cuttack and marched till Justice Das’s office in state police headquarters. Security arrangements had been beefed up there to avoid any untoward incident.

“The Commission was formed to identify the chit fund victims and ensure that they are compensated. However, what the commission said at the BJD Legal Cell function goes completely against the assignment he is supposed to supervise. We want his resignation and appointment of a new Commission in his place,” said BJP Vice President Nayan Kishore Mohanty.

BJD, however, dismissed the demand.

“It has become the second nature of opposition parties to oppose and demand a resignation at every possible opportunity. This is not going to help the cause of Odisha. Dialogue is the only solution,” opined BJD Spokesperson Dibya Sankar Mishra.
