Bhubaneswar, Oct 29:

The Odisha Cooperative Election Commissioner today issued notification for the elections to cooperative societies in the state.

Cooperative Election Commissioner Krushna Gopal Mohapatra today informed that elections to the cooperative bodies in the state will be held on two dates- January 18 and 25 next year.

Elections will be held for 9,733 primary cooperative societies in the state.

The state government had been deferring the polls over the last 18 months. Polls were deferred last month again for six months through an ordinance. Elections to cooperative societies were last held seven years back in 2007.

The state government had issued a notification on October 17 to hold the elections in nearly 10,600 cooperative societies (primary, central and apex) in Odisha.
