Odisha cop caught taking Rs 10,000 bribe

Balangir: Vigilance officials today arrested Sub-Inspector Saroj Ranjan Rath of Muribahal police station in Balangir district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000.

Sources said the cop had demanded the bribe from complainant Sanjib Kumar Pradhan of Gudighata village to help in investigation of a case registered at the police station against his younger brother. On February 20, 2019, the police had registered a case against complainant’s younger brother Manas Pradhan under Sections- 493, 417, 294, 323, 506 and 376 (2)(n) of lPC.

Acting on the complaint, officials of Vigilance Sambalpur Division conducted a raid and caught the SI red-handed while he was accepting the bribe. The entire bribe money was later recovered.

Following the arrest, the anti-graft officials searched his office chamber, police barrack situated inside the police station campus and his residential building at Shaktinagar Pada in Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district.
