Odisha cop denies any shortcoming in probe into Mamita Meher murder case

Bhubaneswar: Refuting the accusations made against the police of weakening the Mamita Meher murder case, DIG northern range Deepak Kumar said the investigation has been done with utmost sincerity and best professional capabilities.

Kumar told media persons the police have been conducting a thorough investigation using modes of scientific, technical, forensic tools. Also, he informed statements of 10 witnesses have been recorded under 164 CrPC and more than 100 other witnesses under 161 CrPC.

“We have some scientific reports at this stage of investigation which along with witnesses fully support prosecution. We are very confident of the evidence, which we have collected against the accused and investigation done so far,” Kumar added.

He also exhorted confidence the investigation will pass the judicial scrutiny and the conviction will happen.

The crime scene reconstruction has been mentioned in the case diary which is also a forwarding report. After the accused was taken into the police remand between October 20 and 25, the crime scene reconstruction was done.

He further clarified the forwarding report is the report which is given to the court when accused is arrested and produced before magistrate.

The police official informed the FIR of the woman teacher murder case was registered on October 13 at 12.50 AM. The complainant was also provided a copy of FIR and the same was uploaded CCTNS.

Anyone can see the FIR, there is no scope of any kind of manipulation in FIR as alleged to weaken the case. After registration of FIR, the same was dispatched to the court on October 13 itself. The same case was put up before a magistrate on next working day on October 16. There is no delay on part of police in sending FIR as alleged, the Northern range DIG further stated.
