Odisha cops crack sensational Kanan Vihar murder

Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the sensational Kanan Vihar murder case in Odisha capital, the Twin City Commissionerate police today arrested deceased’s boyfriend Pradyumna Parida for the murder.

Pradyumna worked as a supervisor in the same hospital where victim Haseena Das used to work as a nurse and both were in a relationship, informed Twin City Police Commissioner Y B Khurania addressing a press conference here today.

“During his relationship with the victim, Pradyumna Parida never disclosed about his marital status while he was already married. Pradyumna felt that the victim had developed relationship with someone else and he was objecting to that,” Khurania said.

“Further, it appears that in the later stage the victim didn’t want to continue her relationship with the accused. However, the accused insisted for continuing with his relationship with the victim as a result of which this incident happened,” he added.

The accused will be forwarded to court today, Khurania said.

On the fateful day, the accused had visited the victim’s place.  He had a quarrel with the victim and had later slit her throat with a kitchen knife, police said.

Further, to ensure that the victim is dead, the accused placed a pillow on her face, police added.

Notably, Haseena, who used to share a rented room with her friend in Kanan Vihar was found murdered with her neck slit on September 25. She was alone in the room on the fateful day as her friend had left for her native place.
