The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here today directed the Odisha police to produce the notorious Dhalasamanta brothers (D-brothers) before it tomorrow to obtain their consent for undertaking voice sample test of theirs.
The Twin City Commissionerate Police had moved the SDJM court to conduct voice sample test of the D-brothers. The D-brothers are currently on police remand for interrogation.
It may be noted that as per Supreme Court guidelines consent of the concerned persons is mandatory for conducting their voice sample test.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has arrested and forwarded to court one Artatrana Bhuyan, a close aide of the D-brothers from his Nuapada residence in Cuttack.
Police has seized unaccounted money amounting to Rs 6,27,600 from his possession.
Police claimed that Bhuyan was a close aide of the D-brothers and was running illegal sand quarries for them.
“Chauliaganj police has arrested one Artatrana Bhuyan, a close aide of the D-brothers from his Nuapada residence in Cuttack vide case no 27 of Chauliaganj PS under section 387, 120, 334 of IPC. We have seized some ill-accounted money from him amounting to Rs 6, 27,600. He was running a balughat (sand quarry) in Balipatna area. We were verifying his records and after interrogation he was arrested and forwarded to court today,” said Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora briefing reporters.
Police during scrutiny of cash seized during raids on the D-brothers residence has found fake currency notes amounting to Rs 12,000. Police today registered another case against the D-brothers at the Chauliaganj police in this connection.
“Some fake currency notes were found in the cash seized from the D-brothers residence. We have registered a case at Chauliaganj police station under section 489 (B) and 489 (C) of IPC. Further investigations in the case are on,” said Arora.
Police has detained at least five aides of the D-brothers at different police stations in Cuttack and is interrogating them, said police sources. These persons with criminal cases against them were involved in the illegal sand quarrying business of the D-brothers, the sources added.
On the other hand, the next hearing in the Commissionerate Police’s plea in the High Court to produce the D-brothers in handcuffs in the court has been shifted to February 22. The court has asked the D-brothers to present their views on the matter.
