Odisha court to decide on police plea for Sabyasachi’s remand today

The SDJM court here will hear today the plea of the Odisha police to take the arrested Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda on a 14-day remand for interrogation.

The SDJM had rejected Panda’s bail application yesterday but had kept the hearing on the remand plea of the police for today.

Panda was sent to the Brahmapur Circle jail for last night.

Sources said while the hearing in the matter has been scheduled at 2pm today , it will be held in Panda’s presence . He will be produced in the court around 1.30pm amid tight security.

Meanwhile Panda’s mother, wife Mili Panda, daughter Guddi and his brother in law (Mili’s brother) have all arrived in Brahmapur and applied to the prison authorities for the permission to meet him.

Sources said the prison authorities are likely to deny them the opportunity under the provisions of law.
