The sessions court had heard the bail application of Sarathi Baba on August 31 after his bail petition was rejected by the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court earlier. The court had rescheduled the hearing to September 4.

Earlier on August 24, SDJM Cuttack had remanded Sarathi Baba’s son, Satyam Raula, to judicial custody till September 2.

The self-styled godman Sarathi Baba was arrested on August 8 under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery with the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine forged document), 341 (wrongful confinement) 506 (criminal intimidation), 379 (theft) of the IPC and SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act (offences of atrocities against the members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes).

On the other hand, Satyam, who had gone missing since the day the Baba hit the headlines for his alleged nefarious activities, was arrested by Crime Branch police from Mumbai and brought back to Odisha on August 19.
