Odisha court fines Bhushan executives for violation of safety norms

The Chief Judicial Magistrate court in the Odisha’s district headquarters town of Dhenkanal today fined two top officials of the Bhushan Steel Limited (BSL).

The court imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on Satish Tyagi and Rahul Sengupta, vice-presidents of Bhushan Steel Limited on charges of violation of safety standards at the plant. These officials will have to undergo imprisonment of one year in case of their failing to pay the penalty amount, the court said in its verdict.

Cases of violation of safety standards by Bhushan Steel were filed by the Directorate of Factories and Boilers of the Odisha government.

“The CJM court, in its verdict, imposed fines on these officials for violation of safety and general norms. These cases were filed between 2008 and 2011 by our zonal inspector”, said PC Das, director, Factories and Boilers.
