Odisha court orders treatment of jailed Maoist leader Sabyasachi

The court of sub divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) on Tuesday asked the Odisha government to provide all treatment facilities to Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda inside the Brahmapur Circle Jail.

Admitting a petition filed by Sabyasachi’s lawyer Dipak Patnaik, SDJM judge Pradip Kumar Behera asked the government to provide medical treatment to the Maoist leader by a team of psychiatrists and medicine specialists.

The court also asked the jail authorities to conduct all diagnostic and pathological tests of Panda in the MKCG Medical College and Hospital and other government hospitals instead of private nursing homes.

Official sources said that the state government has decided to bear the expenses towards Panda’s treatment.
