Odisha court rejects bail plea of Bhuan

A local court in Odisha’s Cuttack today rejected the bail plea of Pramod Patra alias Bhuan who was arrested on charges of extortion and his alleged links with the gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhalsamanta.

The court of additional district and sessions judge (ADJ-1), Cuttack rejected the bail plea of Bhuan.

Notably, Bhuan– the former secretary of Cuttack Private Bus Owners’ Association—was arrested on February 21 by Twin City Commissionerate Police from here. Later, he was produced Bhuan before the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) at his residence after which he was sent to Choudwar Circle Jail as police did not seek to take him on remand.

A day prior to his arrest, a 20-member team led by Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora along with two platoons of police personnel raided Bhuan’s residence at Shankarpur and seized over Rs 76 lakh in cash and several incriminating documents during the search at his residence.

He was detained at Chauliaganj police station for questioning for his alleged links with the DS brothers and involvement in murder, attempt to murder, extortion and bomb hurling cases. He was formally arrested the next morning he was detained at the police station.
