Odisha court rejects BJD MLA’s bail plea

Bhubaneswar: The Special CJM Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court here on Saturday rejected BJD MLA Pravat Biswal’s bail plea in connection with the Seashore chit fund scam case.

Anup Patnaik, the counsel of Biswal, had applied for bail citing health reasons.

The CBI had produced BJD MLA in a court here, two days ahead of the completion of the remand period.

The MLA was admitted to Capital Hospital after the Jharpada jail doctors conducted a preliminary examination on him after he complained of health problems yesterday night.

The CBI, probing the multi-crore chit fund scam, had called Biswal, a three-time MLA, to its office here on September 18 and subsequently arrested him.

Sources in the CBI said that the investigating agency is probing alleged payment of Rs 25 lakh by Seashore Chairman cum Managing Director Prasanta Kumar Dash to Biswal as “protection money” for allowing smooth operations of the company in his constituency.
