Odisha court releases nine MKCG medicos on bail

Brahmapur, Feb 8:
The six medicos and three junior doctors of MKCG Medical College & Hospital who were arrested lodged in the jail for assaulting a policeman on duty and a local reporter were released on conditional bail today.

The SDJM court here allowed the medicos to go on bail against a bailer and a surety of Rs 10,000 each.

These medicos were arrested late on January 29 evening on charges of abusing and assaulting a relative of a patient, a policeman and a local reporter.

Junior Doctors’ Associations’ of the three government medical colleges in the state have threatened to go on indefinite strike demanding withdrawal of cases against these medicos.

The Junior Doctors’ Association of SCB Medical College & Hospital today held discussions with the Health Minister and departmental authorities in this connection.

Junior Doctors’ Association of VIMSAR, Burla have also extended their support to the demands of the Junior Doctors’ Association of MKCG Medical College & Hospital.

At least 1600 medical students are likely to join the stir.  Odisha Medical Service Association (OMSA) and Indian Medical Association (IMA) have extended their support to the agitation.
