Odisha court to hear Marik’s criminal defamation suit on Mar 11

Hearing in the criminal defamation suit filed by former Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik against former MP Anadi Sahu will begin at the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here from Friday (March 11).

The court has summoned former DGP Marik to record his statement in the case on March 11.

Marik has filed a criminal defamation suit against former MP Sahu claiming damages of Rs 50 lakh for making offensive remarks against him.

Sources said Marik apart from him has named five others in the case as witnesses. After recording of Marik’s statement, deposition of other witnesses will be recorded by the court on dates to be announced later by it and after that Sahu will be summoned by the court to appear before it, sources added.

The former DGP had claimed filed the case under IPC section – 500, 501 and 502 on grounds that Sahu’s allegations linking him to gangster Dhalasamanta brothers (D-brothers) has damaged his reputation.

It may be mentioned here that Marik had also filed a civil defamation suit for Rs 50 lakh against former MP Sahu in the Civil Court (Senior Division) Bhubaneswar on March 4.

The Civil Court (Senior Division) Bhubaneswar on Monday has served summons to Sahu to appear before it in person or through his attorney on April 5 in connection with the civil defamation suit filed by former state DGP Sanjeev Marik against him.

Notably, Sahu on February 20 had alleged that Marik has close links with the gangster brothers.

Later on February 23, he further alleged Marik to have pocketed seven crores from arrested brothers. He had also said that Marik’s now transferred stenographer Rabindra Sethi used to take care of his illegal transactions and invest them in various places.
