Odisha cricketer’s unbeaten knock guides India to semis

Bhubaneswar, Feb 7:

India rode on Odisha cricketer Sukhram Majhi’s unbeaten explosive half century to register a thumping 9-wicket victory over New Zealand in a league stage match of T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind played at KIIT stadium here today and stormed into the semi-final of the tournament.

Majhi was adjudged as the man of the match for 56 not out off 25 deliveries. The innings was studded with 11 fours at a strike rate of 224.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the kiwis posted 136 runs losing 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. BD Wilson was the highest scorer with 52 off 51 balls.

Though the Indian bowlers restricted the opposition to a modest total, they gave 41 runs as extras which was the second highest run contribution in New Zealand’s innings after Wilson’s knock.

Odia bowler Iqbal Jafar picked two wickets and Ketan Patel grabbed one while the rest three batsmen were run-out.

Chasing 137, India suffered early jolt losing opener Jafar on the third ball of the innings at a score of 1.

However, captain Ajay Kumar Reddy and Odia boy Sukhram Majhi steered India towards victory with a magnificent partnership. The skipper scored 75 off 28 deliveries smashing 14 fours with a strike rate of 267.86.

India achieved the target in mere 9 overs and made it to the semi-final of the tournament.
