Ghangapatna land scam: Odisha Crime Branch begins probe

The Odisha Crime Branch police today began probe into the much-talked-about land scam in Ghangapatana on the outskirts of the state capital.

Sources said the Crime Branch has registered cases against three additional tehsildars, three revenue inspectors and some lease holders as per the FIR lodged by the ADM, Bhubaneswar, Abanikanta Patnaik.

Briefing the media persons here, DIG, Crime Branch, Rajesh Kumar said that a 12-member special team of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), led by an ASP, will inquire into the scam.

Reports said the special team, after collecting the map of the area and the land from the local tehsildar, went to Ghangapatna for an on-the-spot investigation today.

The Crime Branch team, which will be assisted by  7 officers of the Revenue department, would investigate the ownership, sale and purchase of the controversial land in Ghangapatana.

Sources in the Revenue department said that out of a total of 79 acres of government land, there have been irregularities in the acquisition, sale and purchase of 76 acres of land.

While records of land patta of 41 acres are available, there is no record of the remaining 35 acres of land, they added.
