Odisha Culture dept to hold ‘Grishma Utsav’ in Titlagarh on May 24, 25

The Culture department of Odisha government today announced holding of the first-ever ‘Grishma Utsav’ (summer festival) at Titlagarh in Balangir district on May 24 and 25.

The decision to hold the two-day festival was taken at a meeting chaired by Tourism & Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda at the state secretariat here today, said official sources.

Odisha Sahitya Akademi, Sangeet Natak Akademi and Lalit Kala Akademi will jointly organize programmes during the two-day long festival to be held on May 24 and 25 at Titlagarh.

The Sahitya Akademi will organize a ‘Kavi Sammilani’ and release an anthology of poems while Sangeet Natak Akademi will organize cultural programmes in the evenings during the festival.

Odissi, Chhau, Dhaap, Kalangadanda, Changu, Kui, Gotipua, Ghoda Naacha, Sambalpuri dance and light music will be performed during the festival.

Besides, Lalit Kala Akademi will organize a two-day painting workshop on May 23 and 24; the paintings made by the artists will find place in an exhibition to be organized on May 25.

“Bad weather conditions are in no way an obstacle for culture. Preference will be given to local artists and performers during the festival,” said Dr Arvind Padhee, Secretary Culture department.

Among others, Director Culture Susil Kumar Das, Secretary Odisha Sahitya Akademi Ashwini Kumar Mishra, Secretary Lalit Kala Akademi Tarakant Parida and Secretary Sangeet Natak Akademi Dhirendranath Mallick attended the meeting.

Earlier, the department had organized ‘Megha Utsav’ at Angul and ‘Sita Utsav’ at Daringbadi.
