Odisha: Debt-ridden farmer consumes pesticide; dies

Bargarh: Crop loss and loan burden forced another farmer to commit suicide in Odisha.

Reportedly, a farmer identified as Baisnaba Bhue of Podamuda village under Bargarh block allegedly consumed pesticide last night and later died undergoing treatment at district headquarters hospital (DHH) here.

Sources said 27-year-old Baisnaba had taken Rs 60,000 loan from private moneylenders for cultivating on his three acres land and on additional one acre land as sharecropping.

Baisnaba’s father Meenaketan alleged that the former was in depression for the last couple of days due to crop loss and loan burden. Last night, he went to his farm land and consumed pesticide. Though Baisnaba was rescued and admitted to the DHH, he died while undergoing treatment.
