Odisha DGP order high-level probe into BJD woman leader’s death

Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP Abhay today ordered a high-level inquiry into death of Berhampur BJD woman leader Meenakshi Mishra, who succumbed to burn injuries while under going treatment at a private hospital here after attempting self-immolation in front of Berhampur SP office earlier this month.

The probe will be conducted by IGP (Modernization) Rekha Lohani.

On February 12, Mishra attempted suicide by setting herself on fire after pouring kerosene on her in front of Berhampur SP office. She took the extreme step after failing to meet the SP while protesting against the arrest of her son. Mishra’s son Raja was recently arrested for his involvement in an altercation over parking issue.

Soon after her suicide attempt, the BJD  leader was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. After her condition further deteriorated, she was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, were she succumbed to burn injuries.
