The DG held a closed-door meeting with top officials of the district to work out a strategy to contain the Maoist menace in the district and make the force more people-friendly.

IG, Operations Soumendra Priyadarshi, Southern Range DIG Amitabh Thakur and State Intelligence Director Sunil Roy were also present at the event.

Speaking to the press, Marik assured required security measures to ensure smooth conduct of Nabakalebara rituals at Kanak Sarala Pitha of Jagatsinghpur where Daru of Lord Balabhadra has been identified.

“Maoists are kidnapping people and torturing them to show their presence. They are anti-development. This was not exactly a kidnapping; it was an invitation from Maoists,” said Marik when asked about the abduction of 11 persons from Mathili block in Malkangiri district on Monday noght.

The DGP said police have been able to control Maoist violence in the state after the arrest of Sabyasachi Panda. Not a single police officer has been injured or lost their life ever since, he pointed out.
