Odisha DGP stresses on flawless anti-Maoist Ops

Bhubaneswar: In view of the changing strategic pattern of the Maoists, Odisha DGP Dr R P Sharma today stressed on flawless joint operations against the Red rebels.

“A vigil is being kept on the changing strategic patterns of the Naxals. Because whenever there is pressure of security forces on them they tend to shift their presence in other areas and create newer corridors for their movement,” said Sharma speaking to reporters after at a high-level meeting on strategy planning for counter-offensive against Maoists at his camp office here today.

“Joint operations have to be flawless,” he added.

The DGP said infrastructural issues and logistics were the major challenges being faced by the forces during anti-Maoist operations.

“At today’s meeting we discussed on how soon we can address these issues and make our operational forces comfortable while keeping their morale high for smooth operations,” he informed.

“We need two more battalions of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for operations in Maoist affected areas in Odisha. The Central government has been apprised on this account. Currently, CRPF and BSF have been deployed in anti-Maoist operations in the State,” said Sharma.

The DGP said after undertaking a tour of Maoist affected areas in the State he would ascertain the requirements of the forces on the ground and prepare a report.

He said Maoist activities have declined in the State in the last few years as compared to the previous years but added that the rebels have opened a new corridor in Nayagarh.

Besides, the DGP, IGs of CRPF and BSF and senior officials of the State police were present at the meeting.
