Jamanakira, May 22:

Odisha police have arrested a doctor identified as Ashok Kumar Nanda (49) for allegedly aborting pregnancy of a minor rape victim in Sambalpur district. Besides, Narayan Patel (27), the maternal uncle of rape accused Padmalochan Patel, was also arrested for his alleged complicity in the crime.

Arrest

The duo was sent to jail on Friday after their bail pleas were rejected.

According to reports, the accused Padmalochan Patel–hailing from Patrapali under Jujumura police limits– had established a physical relationship with the minor girl of the same village on the pretext of marrying her.

In the meantime, the accused, the victim and her father–who work as labourers in Tamil Nadu– moved to the south Indian state to resume work. Later, the victim came to know that she was seven-month’s pregnant.

The girl’s father returned to Odisha and proposed Padmalochan’s family to materialize the issue which the latter agreed to it. Following this, the accused and the victim boarded a train to their hometown for marriage.

Padmalochan, however, had different plans in mind. He informed his uncle to help him out in this and took the girl to the nursing home to get her pregnancy aborted. He approached Dr Nanda working with Swosti Nursing Home at Majhipali in Sambalpur who allegedly executed the heinous crime.

After abortion was over, the tormentor fled the scene.

A complaint was lodged with the local police with the help of village Self Help Group (SHG) leading to the arrest of the duo. While Padmalochan was arrested earlier, Nanda and Patel were arrested and forwarded to court on Friday.
