“The Baba, Raghunandan Prabhu (39), of Danda Bhanga Lila Kunja Ashram in Chandanpur had taken the four-month pregnant minor girl to Sanjeevani Nursing Home to terminate the pregnancy last Saturday (May 23). The doctor had charged Rs 3, 500 to abort the child. During investigation, the complicity of the doctor was revealed. Notably, the Baba was an inmate of Danda Bhanga Lila Kunja Ashram at Polang Tota area under Chandanpur police station limits since last 10 years and was engaged in the spiritual activities of the religious place. He used to visit the houses of his devotees (guru bhai) under the Sadar police limits to pluck flowers to be offered to the Lords at the ashram.
However, the saffron clad Baba allegedly raped the minor girl studying in Class VIII while her parents were away following which she got pregnant. The tormentor had also threatened the girl not to reveal this to anybody.
After four months of conception, the girl complained of pain in the abdomen after which the Baba took her to a private nursing home in Puri.
Dr Debendranath Tarei had allegedly administered medicines to terminate the pregnancy of the four-month pregnant minor girl.
The matter came to light when the developed complications soon after being administered medicines by Dr Tarei and had to be brought to the district headquarters hospital here. Her brother lodged an FIR and the Baba was arrested. Two days after his arrest, the accused doctor was arrested on Monday.
It may be mentioned here the Danda Bhanga Lila Kunja Ashram in Chandanpur is around 12 km from the famous Jagannath temple. The ashram spread over six acres of land has Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan as its presiding deities and has been built by Lord Krishna’s devotees. The religious centre is often misconstrued as an extension of ISKCON Trust. But an ISKCON spokesperson told OST that the ashram had nothing to do with the organisation.
