Odisha doc placed under suspension for private practice

Sambalpur: Dr. Goutam Kumar Satpathy, Associate Professor of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), who was caught on Saturday while seeing patients at his official residence during office hours, was today placed under suspension by the authorities of the government-run institute.

Aswini Kumar Pujahari, Director, VIMSAR, suspended the Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery after he was caught during a sting operation conducted by the former.

The Director had received allegations of private practice by several doctors of VIMSAR during office hours, following which he had conducted a sting operation posing himself as a patient.

Dr. Goutam was found practicing at home during office hours on Saturday when I paid a secret visit to his official residence. It was informed to head of the concerned department, who sent him a show-cause notice, said Aswini Kumar Pujahari.

“Dr. Goutam was issued a show-cause notice to clear his stand within 48 hours, but his answer was not satisfactory, following which he has been suspended today. An enquiry has also been ordered into the matter. Further action will be taken after completion of the enquiry,” he concluded.
