The association of government doctors in the state has condemned the growing incidents of assault on the doctors and sought immediate intervention of the Chief Minister.

“The security bill should be implemented for the safety of doctors. We demand deployment of armed policemen in the healthcare facilities. We would tender our resignations en masse from September 1 if the state government doesn’t fulfil our 11-point charter of demands by August 31,” OMSA President Dr Nirakar Bhatta said.

We are getting resignation letters from doctors posted at various government hospitals, he added.

While two cases of assault on doctors were reported in a day from Balasore district, DGP KB Singh today announced that close circuit television (CCTV) cameras would be installed in key locations in all District Headquarters hospitals (DHHs). Besides, police would conduct two-time patrolling during the day.

Notably, yesterday’s case was not an isolated incident of vandalism and misbehavior with doctors. An on-duty doctor was thrashed in Puri District Headquarters Hospital couple of days ago.
