Odisha: Draft notification for election of mayors by people issued

Bhubaneswar: The Housing & Urban Development Department of the Odisha Government today issued a draft notification to amend the Odisha Municipal Rules 1994 for election of Mayors of Municipal Corporations and Chairman of Municipalities by the people through direct voting.

Grievances in this regard can be lodged with the Department Secretary within a month.

As per existing norms, corporators elect mayor in a municipal corporation while councillors of a municipality elect the chairman.

Worth mentioning, elections to the posts of various mayors and chairman of civic bodies are due in the state.
