It was another rewarding day for Odisha athletics at the 19th Federation Cup National Senior Athletic Championship -2015 held here as star sprinters Srabani Nanda and Dutee Chand doing an encore of their performance yesterday by winning the gold and silver respectively in the 200 meter sprint event for women and Purnima Hembram winning the gold in the heptathlon on the last day of the event.
With this, Odisha ended the tournament with seven medals, including four gold and two silver and one bronze.
The icing on the cake was Srabani being declared the best woman athlet of the tournament. With her stellar performance at the championship, the star athlete qualified to participate in the 200 meter event at the Asian Athletic Championship at Wuhan in China.
Srabani clocked 23.67 sec and Dutee 24.52 sec to win the top two positions in the women’s 200 meter race. Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had fixed 23.81 sec as the qualifying mark to participate in the event.
She has already qualified in the 100 meter event with her gold winning performance on the first day of the tournament on Saturday.
Purnima also qualified to participate in Asian Championship in Heptathlon event after winning the gold with 5462 points today. AFI, it may be noted, had fixed 5401 points as the qualifying mark.
