Odisha EC imposes restriction on political advertisements

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Election Commission has imposed restrictions on telecast of political advertisements in electronic media including cable operators.

Informing about this, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar said advertisements of political nature can be telecasted in television channels and cable networks only after getting certification from the State-Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee of the CEO’s office.

The restriction has been imposed as per the order of the Supreme Court, the official said. Worth mentioning, such restrictions were earlier imposed only when the model code of conduct was in force.
