Odisha elementary TG teachers hold massive rally in city

Protesting inaction of the Odisha government in the implementation of ‘Amended Cadre Rules-14’ and get their eleven-point charter of demands fulfilled, more than 10000 teachers took out a massive rally and marched towards Lower PMG in front of the state secretariat here today.

According to All Odisha Elementary TG Teachers Association (AOETGTA), the government of Odisha hasn’t implemented the amended cadre rules-14, which was formed based on the Right to Education Act, recommendations of Union Teacher Appointment Committee, Odisha Education Act and Odisha Subordinate Education Service-93.

“Though the government claims to have implemented anumber of initiatives to improve the quality of education and its popularity in the state, its inaction and indifference to improvised teaching methods at the primary and upper primary levels create a real danger,” read a press release of AOETGTA.

The government prefers not to follow the laws made by it and the Union Government causing substantial damage to elementary education and all our requests to the block education officers, collectors and leaders fall on the deaf ears, AOETGTA added.

The demands being pressed by the teachers are implementation of Amended Cadre Rules-14, appointment of subject specific teachers in upper primary schools, implementation of TG (trained graduate) scale for TG teachers, separation of standard-8 from high schools, creation of head master posts in all project primary, upper primary and new schools, recruitment in 80% of administrative posts by elementary teachers, exemption to teachers from financial duties such as house construction and midday meal, recruitment of a peon cum watchman in upper primary schools, a chance for CT graduate teachers to complete their B Ed, financial aid for students for their projects, creation of transfer law that can be political involvement and placement of eligible cadre teachers in proposed model schools.
