Odisha Energy Department urges OERC not to hike power tariff

Bhubaneswar: The State Energy Department today requested the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) not to increase power tariff for retail consumers for 2022-23.

During a hearing of the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) of Gridco, the department also requested OERC to take into account the surplus revenues of discoms during the current year.

OERC was requested not to pass any orders that affect the commercial viability of Gridco as the State’s long-term energy security and development is dependent on the operational viability of Gridco, the Energy Department added.

The department urged the commission to direct the discoms to bring down the Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses faster so that consumers get the benefit of low tariff.

The Commission was requested to do away with the rebate on intra-state transmission and wheeling charges on renewable energy power that doesn’t benefit industries at large.

The power tariff in Odisha was last revised in April 4, 2021.
