Odisha to enhance share of food processing in total industrial output to 25% by 2025

The Odisha government has set an ambitious target of enhancing the share of the food processing sector in the total industrial production of the state from the current dismal level of 1% to 25% by 2025, Secretary of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) department Panchanan Dash said here today.

Inaugurating a workshop–cum-investor’s meet on food processing organised on the second day of the Odisha MSME Trade Fair at the IDCO Exhibition Ground here, Dash said; “Food processing is at a nascent stage in Odisha at about 1%. It is contemplated to enhance it to 25% by 2025. A special Vision Document is being drafted for this purpose and the government is providing focussed incentives for food processing industries.”

Addressing a gathering of around 250 entrepreneurs, he stressed the relevance of  (MSME), its role in eradicating unemployment and equitable distribution of income and enhancing GDP of the state and nation.

He further stressed the importance of programmes and schemes being implemented by the State like NMFP and Odisha Food Processing Policy, 2013 exclusively for food processing industries and on the need for inculcating a culture of Make in Odisha.

Among the issues deliberated upon at the workshop were RTE manufacturing in Odisha and Opportunities in Maize Processing and Bakery sector. During the second technical session, there was a discussion on the scope in marine/fisheries sector, sea exports and dairy exports.

Overall 295 stalls participated in 7 hangers consisting of Food Processing industries (52), machine suppliers, manufacturers of food processing & packaging (20), prominent stalls like Gupta Power Cables, Magnum Group of Industries, etc.

The concept design for pre-fabricated building material adopted to meet rural housing needs under the Biju Paka Ghar Yojana was on display at the fair. The Department of Tourism, Odisha, KVIC stalls, 20 large enterprises including MCL, NALCO, SAIL, OCL India, TATA Steel, Jindal Steels & Power, NTPC, East Coast Railways, Emami Paper Ltd., Visakha, ACC Cement have put up stalls at the fair.

Directorate of Industries stall provided support through facilitation counter-cum-help desk for entrepreneur activities such as:  on-line filing of Entrepreneur Memorandum Part-I (EM-I), on-linefFiling of Entrepreneur Memorandum Part-II (EM-II), guideline for Preparation of DPR, credit facilitation, incentives under various policies and coordination with various line departments.
