Odisha Excise cop held for bribery

An Excise Sub Inspector of Bonai was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths of Rourkela division in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday while he accepting a bribe of Rs 30000 from a person.

Sources said, Pratap Sasini, a resident of Mahulapali area of Sambalpur district, has a plot at Gurundia under Bonai sub division in which he had planted Mahua tree for sale of Mahua flower.

On Wednesday, Pratap had gone to the Excise office to apply for license for sale of Mahua flower. However, Excise sub inspector Jagannath Mishra demanded Rs 30000 him for the license.

Finding no other way, Pratap informed the matter to the Rourkela Vigilance Unit.

Following information, a Vigilance team, led by the DSP, Rourkela unit, P Sethi went to Bonai and caught Mishra red-handed while he was accepting the bribe from Pratap at his office chamber.

The Vigilance team later arrested Mishra after seizing the bribe money from his possession.

The anti-corruption officials also conducted simultaneous raid on his official residence at Bonai and his native house at Jajpur Road.

“We have arrested Jagannath Mishra who would be forwarded to court tomorrow,” the Vigilance DSP told OST.
