Odisha: Explosion during firecracker manufacturing leaves three of a family, including baby, critical

Cuttack: As many as three members of a family, including a baby, sustained critical injuries due to an explosion during firecracker manufacturing at Baneswarpada village under Tigiria block of Odisha’s Cuttack district, today.

The victims have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

As per reports, the mishap took place when one Dheera Swain of the village was making firecrackers at his house. The blast left Swain, a woman and a baby grievously injured while he sustained 70 per cent burn injuries.

Police have started an investigation into the incident to ascertain whether Swain was manufacturing the firecrackers for sale or not.

Worth mentioning, the Orissa High Court has granted permission for the sale and use of only green crackers in the state during Diwali festival, this year.

The court has permitted bursting of crackers for two hours on Diwali from 8 PM to 10 PM.

However, the green crackers need to be approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), the court said.
