Odisha: Father, grandfather die after death of young migrant girl in Andhra

Balangir: In a tragic incident, a man and his old father died in shock and grief months after death of his young daughter, who had migrated to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh as a labourer.

The incident was reported from Pakhanmunda village under Turekela Block in Balangir district.

According to reports, Jamini Majhi (20), daughter of Sukru Majhi and Champa Majhi, of Pakhanmunda village had moved to Andhra Pradesh to work as a labourer.

The family of Jamini that was under extreme poverty had allowed her to go to Andhra for work along with a family of Tularam, another resident of the village.

Source said that she had migrated to the neighbouring state after being paid money in advance by the labour contractor Biranchi Majhi.

A few months back, the family of Tularam had returned to the village without Jamini. When asked about the young girl, the labouer contractor and Tularam informed them about her death.

Smelling foul play in the incident, the deceased Jamini’s father Sukru Majhi and grandfather Ranger Majhi had approached the Turekela Police to lodge a complaint. They alleged that their daughter was murdered in Andhra.

However, the police did not receive the complaint citing the incident took place in Andhra, not in Odisha. The family was shattered after they failed to register the case for investigation into mysterious death of Jamini.

A few days ago, Sukru and his father died in grief following death of his beloved daughter, who had left home to feed her family.
