Odisha: Fight over smart phone turns tragic as minor girl dies by suicide

Rourkela: A fight over a smart phone turned tragic when a minor girl allegedly died by suicide in Bondamunda area of Sundargarh district today morning.

The deceased, identified as Jaya Mahato, had a quarrel with her brother last evening over possessing the smart phone. Following the intervention of her parents, the quarrel subsided. However, Jaya was seething and took the extreme step at her house in Sector-D today morning.

After her father left for work and mother went to the nearby daily market, Jaya locked the bedroom from inside. She hung herself from the ceiling with a rope. When Jaya’s mother returned home, she knocked the door. As no one responded, Jaya’s mother peeped through the window and found her daughter hanging from the ceiling.

Jaya’s mother then informed her neighbours. She took her daughter to the hospital with their help. At the hospital, doctors declared the minor girl dead.

The Bondamunda Police reached the spot and registered an unnatural death case. Investigation into the case is underway.
