Odisha floods: 80 villages affected in Bhadrak, several marooned

Bhadrak: Around 80 villages in Odisha’s Bhadrak district have been affected due to floods in river Baitarini.

Several areas in the district remained inundated with hundreds of people marooned despite a fall in the water level of river Baitarini. The river is still flowing above the danger mark.

While the danger mark at Akhuapada stands at 17.83 metres water was flowing above the danger mark at 17.87 metres when reports last came in today.

As many as 27 villages of five panchayats under Dhamnagar block have been inundated. Similarly, 25 villages of Bhandaripokhari block have been inundated.

People marooned due to the floods have been rescued and shifted to cyclone shelters. Shortage of boats has affected rescue and relief operations in the district.

There are only three boats available for rescue and relief operations in Bhandaripokhari block.

While thousands still remain marooned, neither cooked food nor dry food has reached these people.

Aradi block in the district has also been affected by the floods, as many as 25 villages spread across Olanga, Nandapur and Sundarpur panchayats have been badly affected.
