Odisha: Flora, fauna survey begins at Chilika lake

Chilika: The Chilika Development Authority (CDA) today began the annual flora and fauna survey in Chilika lagoon to assess the bio-diversity of the eco-system.

Sources said 18 teams have been engaged for the enumeration.

All boat owners associations and members of primary fishermen co-operative societies (PFCSs) have been requested not to ply boats from 6 AM to 12 noon. Visitors have also been requested not to visit Chilika during the period..

Earlier on January 5,  the annual bird counting was conducted at Chilika, Asia largest brackish water lagoon. As per the census, the lake has a record number of 11, 05,040 birds this year as against 10, 47,968 registered last year.
