Odisha forms 4-member panel on higher education reforms

A month after the furore over irregularities in evaluation of Plus Two examination papers that forced the Council for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) to receive thousands of applications from students for rechecking, the Odisha government has constituted a fact finding committee to look into the omissions and commissions in the examination and evaluation process and suggest measures to improve the system.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, the Higher Education Department said it has formed a four-member committee under the chairmanship of Prof Amulya Kumar Panda. The other members of the committee are former directors of Higher Education Bimal Prasad Nanda and Satyakam Mishra and joint secretary of the department. The committee will submit its report to the department within a month.

The committee will identify acts of commission/omission in the evaluation process and suggest measures for improvement in the system, revisit Orissa Higher Secondrary Act and Regulation, 1982 and give suggestions and a draft amendment of the Act.

It will also suggest revision of syllabus, evaluation process, re-addition, rechecking and suggest further examination reforms by the CHSE.
