Odisha gets another COVID-19 testing centre

Bhubaneswar: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Odisha got another testing centre to test samples of persons with suspected symptoms of deadly virus.

The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar received the approval of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for COVID-19 testing. Official sources said the Director of ILS informed Principal Secretary of Health department, Nikunja Bihari Dhal that it has received the permission of the DBT to conduct the testing.

Official sources added the ILS will begin COVID-19 testing next week.

At present, samples of suspected COVID-19 persons are being tested at RMRC, Bhubaneswar, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Couple of days back the Odisha government requested the Center to allow VIMSAR, Burla and MKCG, Berhampur to conduct COVID-19 tests.

This apart, ICMR is likely to set up medical laboratories and facilities in Odisha as two AN-32 transport aircraft of Indian Air Force on Monday airlifted 19 personnel and 3500 kgs of medical equipment from Tambaram, Tamil Nadu to Bhubaneswar.

Till yet the total number of COVID-19 positive case in the State is 42, which includes two discharged cases and one case who expired.
