Odisha girl Anwesha bags silver in National U-13 Girls chess meet

Odisha girl Anwesha Mishra has won the silver medal in 29th National Under-13 Girls Chess Championship held at Gurgaon in Haryana on Monday.

The week-long championship, which started from August 30 saw Anwesha registering seven wins and four draws, earning a total of nine points.

Priyanka Nutakki from Andhra Pradesh grabbed gold medal with 10 points and Vantika Agarwal from Delhi got the bronze medal with nine points.

Anwesha achieved the feat by defeating WCM Lakshmi C in the eleventh round and scored nine points. She started the meet at the sixth rank and finished second while earning 84 elo rating. From 1765 points, her rating will improve to 1849 next month after this win.

The elder daughter of Prakash Kumar Mishra and Reena Mishra, Anwesha has already won two medals in national and international level championships. In 2011, she got silver in 25th National Under-9 chess championship and won a bronze at the National Under-11 chess championship held in Delhi in 2003. In the 2012 Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Srilanka, Anwesha had bagged two gold medals in rapid and blitz rounds.

Odisha’s IM Padmini Rout had bagged gold medal in the national U-13 chess for three successive years in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
