The student identified as Kalyani Bhoi, who was appearing her Plus II first year examinations, fractured a bone in her rib cage and also sustained spinal injuries when the college peon identified as Harekrushna Pradhan, who had climbed on the asbestos roof of the classroom with a bag of cement to conduct repairs, came down crashing on Kalyani inside the classroom with a piece of the roof which caved in. Harekrushna too has been injured in the incident.

Kalyani, who fell unconscious after the incident, was first rushed to the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla but was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack as her condition deteriorated.

“I was writing my examinations and didn’t know anything. All of a sudden, there was a big sound; that is all I can remember. I had lost my sense. So I have no memory of what happened next,” said Kalyani, the injured student at the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla.

“Plus II first year examinations were going on at the college. Without paying heed to our warning, the peon climbed the roof and the mishap happened. We had asked him to use the scaffolding instead,” said Rashmita Bhoi, Principal of Kisinda College.
