Odisha girl ‘playing’ Blue Whale Challenge attempts suicide

Jharsugada: A nursing girl student was rescued while she tried to kill herself as she had been allegedly playing the deadly Blue Whale online game in Odisha’s Jharsugada district.

The victim has been identified as Janani Bagarti of Pipilimal village.

The girl, hailing from Belpahad region of the district, was admitted to a private hospital here where her condition is stated to be stable.

According to reports, the girl who was studying in a Bhubaneswar-based nursing college, had cut her wrists in a blade after consuming sedatives.

Meanwhile, police have reached the hospital and started investigation into the matter.

So far, as many as four Blue Whale game related incidents have been reported across the State and the victims are mostly school or college students.

This is the first suspected Blue Whale game related incident in Jharsugada district.

Worth mentioning, the Orissa High Court, on September 11, had admitted a PIL and served notices to the Secretaries of Union IT Ministry, State IT department and State Home Department; DG Police, Special DG Crime Branch and Twin City Police Commissioner to contain the lethal ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ online game.
