Odisha girl sets her ablaze after poor result in Matric suppl exam

Rourkela: Failing to pass the Matric supplementary exam suspectedly drove a 16-year-old girl to commit suicide by setting herself ablaze at Panda Colony near Power House in Odisha’s Rourkela city today.

According to reports, Nirupama Mahalik, the deceased girl of Chandbali in Bhadrak district, had appeared for the annual Matric examination this year. However, she failed to qualify.

The minor girl later appeared for the Matric supplementary exam but did not succeed either.

Before publication of the supplementary exam result, she was staying at her uncle’s house here for the last one month.

Nirupama allegedly locked herself inside a room today during the absence of her uncle and aunt and later set her ablaze by pouring kerosene over her body.

On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the charred body. Investigation into the incident is underway.
