Odisha girl working as maid raped by trader in Kerala

Tiruvananthapuram: A 23-year-old girl from Odisha working as a maid in Kerala was allegedly raped and impregnated by a well known cashew nut trader.

The accused, identified as Rajmohan Pillai (53), younger brother of biscuit baron Rajan Pillai who died in Tihar jail in 1995 after being arrested in a fraud case, has been arrested by Tiruvananthapuram police under Section 376 of IPC.

According to reports, the matter came to fore when the girl, who is reportedly two months pregnant, reached a hospital here for abortion after being told by Rajmohan and his friends to do so.

Unable to understand her language and on knowing that she is not married, a doctor at the hospital asked another staff from Odisha to inquire.

The girl later revealed that she was sexually abused by Rajmohan following which the hospital authorities informed the Tiruvananthapuram police.

The victim reportedly told police that she has been working as a domestic help at Rajmohan’s residence for the last eight months. In her statement, she revealed that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times by him.

The girl has been sent to a shelter home, police said.

The accused was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
